JOB SUMMARY

To assist the principal in leading and in the operation of the school and supervising the staff assigned to campus. Interviewing and recommending new hires. Training new teachers and staff. Planning, assigning, and directing work assignments. Completing teacher's classroom observations. Providing student discipline. Investigating complaints. Resolving issues between students, teachers, and parents. Provide supervision for extra-curricular activities. Investigate matters of a sensitive nature. Making recommendations to the principal. Performing any duties assigned by the lead building principal.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Serve as principal of the school in absence of the principal;
  • Supervising teachers and staff through development tactics and observations;
  • Assist the principal in developing and maintaining a program for the evaluation and improvement of instruction to ensure maximum educational benefits for improving students’ academic progress including all special populations;
  • Assist the principal in developing a functioning education philosophy consistent with the values of the community, teachers, school administration, and school board;
  • Assist the principal in developing through consensus with the staff expectations of appropriate treatment of students and monitor to ensure that those expectations are met;
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff and
  • division administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County Public School system;
  • Supervising student activities on campus and ensuring safety and wellbeing;
  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive curriculum and program of services in cooperation with teachers and central office staff;
  • Assist in the student discipline to redirect negative actions into positive outcomes;
  • Assist in the development of an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school;
  • Dress in such manner as to command the respect of parents, teachers, and pupils;
  • Assist in the supervision and providing for the general welfare of students during the school day, school trips, and during school activities;
  • Assist the principal in maintaining effective programs to strengthen and monitor pupil discipline, health, attendance, and academic progress;
  • Assist in the monitoring of the district procedures for reporting to parents, maintaining essential records and implementing follow-up procedures as needed;
  • Assist the principal as needed to notify parents and/or obtain medical care in the event of serious student injury or illness;
  • Assist the principal, as requested, in the selection, assignment, and supervision of certificated and classified personnel;
  • Assist the principal, as requested in maintaining effective evaluation procedures according to district policy;
  • As requested by the principal assist in the administration of district policies in the operation of the school;
  • Assist the principal as requested in maintaining school records and filing necessary reports.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements of various governmental agencies;
  • Assist the principal to maintain safe, clean, attractive, and well-kept buildings and grounds.
  • Attend meetings of the board as required;
  • Work cooperatively with the district administrative team, building leadership team, site council, if one is established, PTA/PTO, and other school/community groups;
  • Maintain mastery of technology competencies; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and/or Supervision from an accredited institution of higher learning, school leadership licensing program;
  • Three (3) years’ successful experience as a teacher;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working successfully with teachers, parents, students, and community as attested to be a division superintendent, the chief administrative officer of a school, or by an official of an institution of higher learning who is in a position to evaluate such characteristics.
  • Possess good physical and mental health and personal qualities which build the confidence of pupils, parents, teachers, and other school administrators.
  • Other such qualifications that the school board might accept in lieu of any of the above.
  • Be recommended by the division superintendent and appointed by the school board.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed through frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to activities, schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment exposes the employee to inside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, and applicants is required. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

 

EVALUATION:

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
