Description | JOB SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for performing work in the skilled maintenance areas. Work is performed at various work sites. Work is performed from standing instructions and written work orders. The position is accountable to the Director of Maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- Install: Promethean Boards, bulletin boards, map rail, TV shelf brackets, door locks, door closures, panic bars, electric wire, electric receptacles, floor tile, emergency and exit lights, underground utilities, faucets, etc.;
- Repair: door hardware and locks, flush valves, lockers, broken glass, ceiling grids, light switches, wall receptacles, water fountains, bleachers, drain lines including snaking, tables, chairs, lockers, exit lights, faucets, broken vinyl, and ceramic tiles, etc.;
- Perform: painting, varnishing, shellacking tasks, pushing snow with truck w/ snow blade and/or 4WD tractor w/ blade and loader, operate a backhoe moving earth and digging ditches, minor carpentry, concrete, block and brick work, drywall repairs, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance; and
- Performs other assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Building trades license preferred;
- Acquired knowledge of general building repairs (commercial/industrial level) equaling a total of not less than 10 years as a journeyman. Certification from a vocational school is a plus;
- May be required to obtain a certificate of good health, including a TB test, signed by a licensed physician;
- A police background check will be conducted for the chosen applicant;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of all hand and power tools as relates to building repairs and codes/regulations as related to specific jobs.
- Knowledge of safe working techniques, skills/ability required to read, interpret, and apply building plans and equipment diagrams, measurements, and schematics.
- Skill in the safe use of hand tools and power equipment used in building maintenance work.
- Ability to keep records, complete work orders, purchase supplies and inventory,
- Ability to work independently or with others.
- Ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions and to maintain good working relationships with all employees of the school system and the public.
- Ability to evaluate problems and make effective repairs with minimum disruption.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime when needed.
- Ability to read, interpret and put into action safety data sheets.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a dump truck with snowplow.
- Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County School system.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work typically performed requires sufficient physical stamina for lifting and carrying heavy objects, up to 70 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment exposes the employee to the outside during inclement weather. Hazards include use of electricity, high powered saws, drills, jackhammers and working from heights. Climbing poles in excess of 110’ in height and ladders to 34’. Must possess a current and valid Virginia state driver license and maintain positive points on your driving record. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
EVALUATION:
The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities. |
